W01. W03. Writing Poetry with Jazz (1)&(2)

- A Creative Expedition with Children

By Uncle HungAh Kok

[W01] 14:30-15:30

[W03] 17:00-18:00

Improvisation is a key feature of jazz, and so is children’s playfulness. That strikes a chord in HK’s most renown storyteller and poet Uncle Hung. So a program for children to create poetic narrative together with a jazz musician is conceived. In this program, Uncle Hung will be working with musician Ah Kok of Hidden Agenda, to explore with children their connection with the world and themselves through poetic narratives and jazz music, and their echoing with each other.

  • Conducted in Cantonese
  • For age 5-10. Adults are welcomed to sit in.
  • Capacity: 15 children; 15 adults per session

W02. The Drum Circle – Sharing Rhythm for Group Consciousness [FULL]

By Aseana Percussion Unit (APU)

drum circle is any group of people playing hand-drums and percussion in a circle. They are distinct from a drumming group or troupe in that the drum circle is an end in itself rather than preparation for a performance. They can range in size from a handful of players to circles with thousands of participants.

Typically, people gather to drum in drum "circles" with others from the surrounding community. The drum circle offers equality because there is no head or tail. It includes people of all ages. The main objective is to share rhythm and get in tune with each other and themselves. To form a group consciousness. To entrain and resonate.

With the diversities rhythm support by the Aseana Percussions Unit, audience can participate in this workshop, learning the exotic rhythm from all over the world, and create their own collective voice, which emerges as they drum along.
