    The 5422 Collective is a jazz orchestra formed in 2013, which consists of accomplished players from different musical backgrounds who share the same keen passion for jazz. Writing its own book, The 5422 Collective adopts a more modern compositional style and features primarily original works, along with a number of rearranged jazz vocal favorites. The 5422 Collective made its debut performance at the Hong Kong People's Fringe Festival 2013 and received critical acclaim. Its debut album is currently underway.

     

    The 5422 Collective 是成立於 2013 年的爵士大樂團。成員各具經驗、技藝,風格背景迴然不同,因對爵士樂的熱愛而加入。樂團以演奏原創器樂作品為主,亦有些許重新編寫的演唱曲目。於香港藝穗民化節 2013 作首演,並獲一致好評。

     

    擔任樂團的指揮/作曲/編曲/鋼琴演奏的雷柏熹於美國Berklee College of Music 畢業後回港發展其音樂事業,並於多方面取得佳績。曾多次出席多個音樂節,奪得台中爵士鋼琴比賽首名。除組合外,雷柏熹亦多次為各爵士大樂隊指揮、寫作及伴奏。流行音樂界別之中,他曾為 Rubber Band、謝安琪、G.E.M.、側田、衞蘭、蘇永康等作 現場演出、作曲、編曲及錄音。

  • Boris Savoldelli Voice Orchestra, Italy 意大利

     

     

     

     

    Boris Savoldelli is a new vocal performer on the music scene who is receiving acclaim from around the world. He is always challenging his “vocal instrument” with new and original ways of singing. 2008 Boris released his album titled INSANOLOGY, an experimental vocal solo project, composed, largely arranged and recorded using only a looper machine. This CD represented Boris’s “light side” - the melodic and more accessible part of Boris’s music and received flattering reviews from all around the world. In 2008, Herbie Hancock’s producer and critic Arnaldo DeSouteiro put “INSANOLOGY” on his list of “Ten Best Vocal Jazz Albums of the Year” and put Boris in third place in the category of “Best Male Jazz Singers” after Tony Bennett and Al Jarreau. In 2011, Boris' 2011 CD, "Biocosmopolitan", was put on DeSouteiro’s list of “Ten Best Vocal Jazz Albums of the Year 2011.”

    Broes is a septet with its own sound. They started as a quartet which took form in the streets of the city Ghent in 2009. They continued building to their own repertoire, ranging from folk to gypsy jazz. In December 2010Broes then got selected 'best upcoming band of the year', by Folkroddels. In April 2013 they become the winners of the Dranouter Rootsrally!

     

    Broes plays at home and abroad. They performed in France, the Netherlands, Belarus and China.

    For some tours they expand the band with extra musicians.

    Jazz Snobs Funk Addicts (JSFA) is a Seoul-based sextet co-led by pianist/keyboardist Jiyoung Lee and bassist Eunchang Choi. Its2009 debut JSFA mixed electro-acoustic jazz-funk and sweet-sounding contemporary jazz. In the hard-grooving second CD "Season 2: The Return of JSFA!!"(2013), Lee's Hiromi-esque staccato keyboard dabs, Jung’s guitar sounds like Scott Henderson’s, and Lee’s saxophone solos with real fire. In JSFA, everybody is grooving. JSFA is now one of the leading exponents of the jazz-funk genre.

    Perfect pitch is just one of the many remarkable things about Lucero. According to his dad – who passed away a few years back – the musician was singing Sinatra’s Strangers in the Night at the age of 13 months; he was playing classical concertos on the piano at two; and he’s been gigging at hotels and appearing on TV shows since he was four. As well as being a tremendously gifted jazz pianist, whose fingers can prance like praying mantises or scramble like frenzied locusts on a keyboard, he’s a singer, arranger, drummer, bass-player, and guitarist; plus he’ll kick your assin NBA Live on the PlayStation.

    One more thing – he has been utterly blind since his premature birth on May 1, 1985.

    But he doesn’t see that as a handicap. “No!” he replies immediately at the suggestion. “No, never.”
    “I would think blindness, it will help you develop your inner strength, which is the most important thing in your life as you grow up.”

    Lucero calls it a gift, but it’s one that didn’t come easy. His father – “a real bad-assed teacher” – subjected the musician to smacks and cigarette burns from a young age as he honed his skill. “Most of the time he turned himself into a master, not a father,” says Lucero.

    Despite some resentment, however, Lucero says he owes his success to his dad and God. “As you grow old, you understand that everything your father did for you is so you can be tough and live in this real world. It’s not a world of happiness and pleasure all the time.” Even when speaking of difficult subjects, the smile never fades from his face.

    These days in Hong Kong, which has been his home for three years, Lucero dazzles Sunday afternoon guests in the lobby at the Four Seasons in Central, before heading over to the Martini Bar at Tsim Sha Tsui’s Royal Garden Hotel. He can often be found jamming at Peel Fresco after hours on Sundays, and he’s currently working on a project rearranging music from Duke Ellington with hip-hop beats.

    “Disability is a disability if you think of it,” he says with characteristic defiance, adding that he doesn’t like the ‘I cannot do it’ attitude. “I really like adventure. I like to do things that everybody doesn’t think I can.”

     

    Born to a musical family in India, Anthony Fernandes started a professional career at anearly age of 14. Moved to L.A, California in 1991 to study at the then Prestigious "DickGrove School Of Music". Moved to HK and teamed up with Asia's premiere guitaristEugene Pao at HK "Jazz Club" where he backed up numerous International renown artists.Besides, he has worked and recorded with over 100 Cantopop and Mandopop artist andrecorded over 800 albums till date.

    Maple Jazz band was formed in 2007. All members studiedand graduated from Xinghai Conservatory of Music, and tutor

    Mikkel's debut album was released in 2006 and received a worldwide critical acclaim. Since then, the trio has toured Europe, Braziland the US, playing most major jazz clubs and festivals. The trio has worked with great saxophonists like Mark Turner and LorenStillman. Mikkel started from drums at four years but switched to the guitar in his teens. He graduatedas Master of jazz guitar from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague Holland and has been living in Berlin, New York andCopenhagen. On drums is one of Denmark's most sought-after drummers Martin Andersen who has toured the world with the NewJungle Orchestra and many others. On bass is Nikolai Munch Hansen, one of the young keepers of Denmark's fine bass tradition.

    Tommy Ho started playing guitar at 13, and furthered his studyat Dick Grove College of Music and G.I.T.(USA) with Masterslike Joe Pass, Larry Carlton, Pat Martino etc. Graduated in83, Tom started work as an in-house producer, arranger andguitarist for a number of major recording labels like WEA,Capital Artist, Fitto Entertainments, and BMG, etc here in HKfor almost 20 years. Recently Tom is back to his Jazz rootand starts gigging at local Jazz clubs with groups andmusicians from all over the world.

     

    Tommy 十三歲開始彈奏結他,後到美國西岸的 G.I.T. 修讀,曾跟隨 Joe Pass,Larry Carlton,Pat Martino 等名匠學習。回港後在各大跨國唱片公司任監製、編寫及綠音工作近廿年之久。現除教學外亦投放較多時間在彈奏上,始終對爵士樂不離不棄。

    Keyboardist/composer Riza Arshad formed simakDialog in 1993. simakDialog is crossover of a melting pod between western jazz/rock/psychedelia and Javanese/Indonesian exotic rhythm riffs.  Arshad's keyboards and writing are phenomenal: frequently reminding listeners of some towering progressive jazz pillars, such as Weather Report, Pat Metheny Group and early incarnations of Chick Corea's Return To Forever.  That said, what distinguishes simakDialog from mere fusion jazz groups is the presence of Indonesian percussionist Endang Ramdan playing traditional Indonesian instruments and the group’s seamless integration of traditional classical Indonesian forms to fusion jazz. 

    The band has performed extensively in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Nepal and Germany.

    Tango Jazz Quartet mixes the melodic and rhythmic patterns of Tango with the harmonies and improvisation of Jazz.  Its leader GustavoFirmenich has recreated the performances which were common a few decades ago in Buenos Aires, where dancing eveningsboth with Tango Orchestras and Jazz Bands were organized. He found that there was one musical aspect which was clearlydifferent between the two : the improvisation. Up to now, the group has recorded three CD’s. The first one was presented in aconcert with the great accordionist Richard Galliano. Since then, the band has tour around South Africa, France, Switzerland,Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, Belgium and Italy.

     

    從南美遠渡重洋來到香港獻技的探戈爵士四重奏,是今屈香港國際爵士音樂節另一焦點所在。探戈和爵士的混合聽來像是種新穎的融和品種,但原來在上世紀四至五十年代的布宜諾斯艾里斯,觀眾在欣賞探戈音樂之同時,亦有爵士樂隊同臺演出。在引進新興音樂形式作推廣之同時,兩種音樂也有不少共同處,最明顯的原素便是`即興'。Gustavo Firmenich 有鍳於此,在二千年時便把兩者結合,組成了探戈爵士四重奏,前後出版了三張唱片,更邀得手風琴名匠 Richard Galliano 為演出嘉賓。樂隊自此便開始在拉美之外演出,及受到國家文化外務局的認同和支持,到歐洲多國及南非等地巡演,推行這阿根廷獨有的、浪漫和具挑戰性的音樂。
